How To Ensure the Perfect Goodnight Kiss

It’s become part of our culture. Even fairy tales slow down and the music swells when the princess kisses her prince for the first time. Ok — maybe that’s a bit dramatic and yes. Some may think that a kiss is just a kiss, but for others it’s an indicator of compatibility. A study by researcher Sheril Kirshenbaum, a scientist at the University of Texas, revealed most people are able to remember 90 percent of the details of their first kiss.

Not a memory many of us are willing to leave to chance.

The moment of truth, make or break — it’s time ensure the perfect goodnight kiss.

  1. Hope for the best.  Confidence in skills and connection can be subconsciously noticed. Hope for the best … and prepare for it subtly. By this we mean, pop a tic-tac or Listerine strip without being noticed.
  2. Gauge their interest.  If she’s running for the door or he sticks his hand out for a shake, chances are they’re not interested. Body language is key. Hesitation to part ways is a good indicator, as are moistening lips, leaning slightly inward and (for girls) the innocent gaze up (yes, that does exist outside of movies!)
  3. Hitch’s 90/10 rule.  Aside from being a great rom com, Hitch was on to something when he taught Albert this rule. This is where men come in 90 percent of the way and then wait for the girl to come the last 10. Call it old fashioned, but women like when men make the first move. However, ladies — effort on your part is a must! If you’re into the kiss, meet him before he falls off the edge.
  4. K.I.S.S. Yup, just kiss! But follow the acronym, too: Keep It Simple, Stupid. Don’t complicate things or let it get out of hand. Remember, this is the first kiss … and hopefully, there’ll be many more.
