Bro Dating Tips From the ‘80s and ‘90s (Song Lyrics)

Knowing the lyrics to these jams could’ve saved me from serious heartbreak in the early 2000’s. Well, better late than never. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane where mullets were cool, ripped jeans were the rage, and Luke Perry was the stud of the hour.

"If you wanna be my lover you gotta get with my friends."

Men, this line is to be followed to a T! Whether you’ve just met a girl out at a bar for “ladies night” or you’re just starting a relationship – if her friends don’t like you, you’re done. If you really want a shot at this chick, her besties need to approve of you. Failure to do this will result in her friends attacking you like a pack of wild hyenas. Don’t go wasting her precious time.

"I know I could have saved a love that night if I'd known what to say."

Communication is very important in every relationship. When it breaks down, the relationship will surely hit the skids. Hindsight is always 20/20, but when you look back at failed romances, it’s often not what you did say but what you didn’t say that made the relationship fail. Make sure you talk it out with your S.O. on a regular basis or you’ll be singing along to this Poison classic in the near future.

"Let's tell it how it is, and how it could be, how it was, and of course how it should be."

Communicating in a relationship includes talking about sex! Having a healthy sex life makes all the difference in the world. If you want a particular sexual act done differently, let your partner know. Frame every conversation like this: “I love how you do blank, but one time you did it like this and it really got me going.” No offense should be taken – you can thank me later.

"Take my hand and we'll make it – I swear."

Often what defines a relationship is how you work together in the bad times, not the good. If there’s no trust, you have nothing at all. When you rise to the occasion when the chips are down, you show your partner that you’re in it for the long haul – supporting someone during their darkest times proves that.

"Your first kiss was a sweet kiss, second kiss had a twist, third and your fourth kiss I don’t want to miss."

What my man Jordan Knight is alluding to here is to make sure to bring the heat when her body’s telling you to. Most women like a man who will take charge of a situation, especially when it comes to initiating intense make-out sessions.  If she’s kissed you on two separate occasions, she’s into you – that’s obvious. Be ready to give her your “stuff” at some point on that third and fourth kiss.

"Cool it now, you got to cool it now, oooooh watch out, you’re gonna lose control."

It happens to the best of us. You like a girl so much that you go overboard trying to show her how much you care for her – and you might be pushing her away. If you make her feel like she’s the no. 1 priority in your life too early in the relationship, she will no doubt Bug. The. Hell. Out. Pump the brakes before you lose control and your girl.
