Tame The Unruly For Date Night
By Amanda Rodriguez, Copy Cutie
Few things make a woman feel as good as pampering her body. When preparing for a date night, or simply a night out, there are a few rituals that come into motion. You may go out for a mani-pedi, or go get your hair done. We always tame the visible hair, but what about the hair we hide from the world? There is no need to be ashamed or feel uncomfortable in your own skin, ladies. I have seen the light, and it was shining from a place called Completely Bare.
At a recent intimate blogger’s event, this Copy Cutie got the inside scoop on Completely Bare’s goals, the type of wax they use, and some of their popular services to make you feel your absolute best for date night, or any night. Getting the inside scoop from founder Cindy Barshop and her lovely team at their 5th Ave location, here are some tips on what kinds of services may apply to you, and some of their FAQs!
Should I have a drink before I get a
Brazilian wax?
Although
it may relax you during a wax or your buzz may distract you, drinking is not
necessarily the best choice before you wax. Alcohol is a stimulant and thins
the blood, making you more sensitive.
Can I get an STD or die from waxing?
According
to the Center for Disease Control, neither of these are an issue.
How many sticks should be used during
a wax treatment?
Any
reputable spa should use a fresh stick after each dip. Double dipping is a big
no-no and is highly unsanitary.
I think I had a bad reaction to my wax.
The next day I was really itchy. What can I do?
Wax that
is applied when it is too hot, or is not removed quickly enough can cause the
skin to itch after a treatment. This is called a histamine reaction. You should
not worry, though, as there is a quick fix: hydrocortisone. A great topical
cream, hydrocortisone helps reduce the itchiness. You apply it every couple of
hours until the itching subsides. One should also avoid exercising until the
itching calms down: you don’t want to keep reintroducing heat to the area,
which can make things worse.
I was told I would be able to go up to
6 weeks between waxes. So why wasn’t that the case? Why did I see growth much
sooner?
There are
three elements that contribute to this:
1. Stage
of growth
There are
three stages of growth: growing, resting, transitional. At any given time
approximately 80-90% of the hair follicles are in the growing phase and the
rest are either in the resting phase (10-15%) or transitional phase (2-3%).
This means that there is probably some hair underneath the skin growing that
hasn’t reached the surface yet, or it is above, but isn’t long enough to be
grasped. The rapidity at which this hair will pierce the skin varies from
person to person.
2. Growth
cycles
Different
areas of the face and body do not grow hair at the same speed. Men and women
also do not grow hair at the same rate. Basically, this means that everyone is
different and that estimates are just that: estimates. You shouldn’t compare
yourself to another person, or one body part to another.
3. Breakage
When hair
is waxed, instead of being removed, it breaks above or even below the skin’s
surface. This means you will see hair sooner and there is a possibility of
getting an ingrown.
Can I wax during my period?
Absolutely.
However, if you are sensitive during your menstrual period, you may want to
avoid bikini waxing during those days.
What is a big no-no while lying on the
table?
Interfering
with the treatment in progress! Always leave the waxing to the professionals!!
Is it safe to use wax during your pregnancy? Can I get a Brazilian while pregnant?Yes!!! And it is completely safe! Not to mention that during pregnancy it can be hard to shave down there because a big belly is in the way.
What areas of the body can be waxed?
Wax can be
used virtually everywhere! Frequently waxed areas for women include legs, arms,
underarms, bikini, eyebrows, and face. Men tend to do chest, legs, arms, back,
and shoulders. But once again, all parts are fair game.
How long do the results last?
Depending
on your hair re-growth, the results can last between three to six weeks.
Typically, hair growth is minimal the first week and increases the third and
fourth week. Continued waxing results in reduced hair growth, so the time
between treatments will increase.
Will the hair grow back thicker?
Just the
opposite! It can feel thicker because after waxing you become used to hairless
and smoother skin, as opposed to shaving. Typically, regrowth is finer,
thinner, and slower.
Why wax at all?
Waxing is
one of the best ways you can temporarily remove unwanted hair. It removes the
entire hair from the root, whereas shaving removes hair from the surface of the
skin. The hair grows back finer and slower since it is pulled out directly from
the root. You can also wait longer in between waxing appointments as opposed to
shaving every few days. Founded in 1998, completely bare prides itself on
building confidence in both women and men by providing innovative,
results-oriented services that resolve people’s hair removal needs.
